Arizmendi Bakery

You've got to get up pretty early to get the best baked goods in the city and you might as well take the dog with you as you do. It was my last brisk day in San Francisco for a while and my buddy insisted that we stop by Arizmendi for some gourmet baked goods before heading to the airport. There's some benches out front where you can park the pup while you run in for some scones.

On his recommendation, I picked up a pecan roll and the kind and very helpful staff helped me choose a cheese roll for the road. I started with the cheese roll and found it very pleasant and had just the right amount of saltiness and savory-ness that I wanted in the morning and pat of butter would really bring it over the top. The pecan roll was excellent with my green tea and had great gooeyness but wasn't overly sweet. The recommendations were an excellent start to my day and I can see myself coming in regularly for my morning pastry fix.

Arizmendi is just another example of great San Francisco fare. All of the breads and pastries are fresh out of the oven and warm as you bite into them. The service was phenomenal and helpful in selecting from the many choices and I would have been lost in variety without their help. It's clear why Arizmendi is so popular and I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the Inner Sunset area.
