This was a very pretty street to visit during Christmas time. I am a bit jaded because I've been to the one in LA that is just gorgeous. I thought there would be a bit more lights and songs/special effects. We brought our dog along for a nightly walk with our friends. Every house had a christmas card on their lawn!
There was even a limo driving very slowly through the streets. That's the kind of shenanigans you'll see here in San Diego.
Every family should make a visit to Christmas Card Lane a part of their holiday traditions. Not only is it fun and beautiful and makes you feel like a kid again, it gives you an excuse to walk off those extra holiday pounds.
Christmas Card Lane is a Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood where everyone decorates their house with as much Christmas/winter stuff as possible, ranging from Christmas lights to giant greeting cards to abominable snowmen. We went on a Sunday night, around 9:30, and some of the houses had already turned their lights off - so try to go earlier in the evening. I was surprised that I didn't see any kids, but there were plenty of adults and dogs strolling about. Music, familiar characters, winter treats for sale - they've got it all. The only thing missing is snow!
One of the most unique spectacles of the holidays in San Diego is the light show on Christmas Card Lane. Located in Rancho Penasquitos, it's awesome to me that an entire neighborhood participates in this annual showcase in front of their homes.
The best strategy is to park near the entrance on Oviedo and then walk around the neighborhood with your dogs leading the way. The neighborhood is very pet-friendly but just remember to pick up after them.
The air was so festive that it inspires me to want to participate as well and I'd have to go with a little bit of South Park action in my yard. My favorite houses were definitely those with the trains in the yard and also the house that looked like a picturesque cottage out of a West Elm brochure. Sooo beautiful!
