After a long day of getting things done at my local Starbucks, I was a bit too tired to go home to make dinner. That's when I saw the $6 Daphne's special next door and decided to give it a try. Daphne's has always been sort of an enigma to me since it's half fast food restaurant, half sit-down dining, but at their price points, I guess it's sort of a nice median.
Given 4 appetizer choices, 6 entree choices, and 2 dessert options, there are many different ways to customize your meal. My friend and I decided to share the meal and try different options. For starters, we got the fire feta and lemon chicken soup. Both were really tasty and the feta was surprisingly spicy. I wish I knew what they seasoned it with. The soup was very refreshing but was just a little more tart than I would have liked.
For entrees, we split the chicken kabob and crispy shrimp plate with fries and the chicken kabob and gyro plate with soup and rice pilaf. The chicken was very tender but the shrimp was a little overcooked and fries overly seasoned. The gyro meat was a little overcooked and wasn't nearly as good as the stuff you can find at The Kebab Shop, but wasn't terrible either. I enjoyed the rice pilaf and it was a nice contrast to the accompanying Greek salad.
We shared the baklava and pecan delight, which are both basically super sweet delicacies made of puff pastry and nuts. They were both a bit much as a finisher but were pretty good little bites.
For what it is, Daphne's isn't half bad. As a fast food joint, their portion sizes and prices are decent, and the food quality is better than most comparables. There's tons of outdoor seating at this center so bring your dog with you and bask in the sun awhile. It's not the best or classiest Mediterranean restaurant I've ever been to, but for a quick bite, it's definitely worth checking out.
