Of the gelaterias I've sampled so far, I think Gelateria Frizzante's creamy texture definitely ranks towards the top. It's located in the heart of one of the ritziest parts of town and captures a lot of the tourist traffic that passes through that wants to enjoy some Italian ice cream while gazing over the water and watch as seals sunbathe on the beach.

For this review, I decided to try the gianduia and pumpkin flavors. I really liked the strong, concentrated flavors that come with gelato, as well as the tiny dark chocolate shavings that were whipped into decadent treat. Pumpkin was one of their seasonal offerings and possessed the potent flavors of the holiday season. There were many other choices to try, but unfortunately Frizzante restricts your choices to a maximum of two, even for the medio size offering.

The space itself was a bit dark for my tastes, but the bench just outside provided for some premium seating real estate for people watching and enjoying the warm La Jolla sun with their dogs. There are several places in La Jolla Cove that serve gelato, but make Frizzante a destination to stop into when you want to have a nice stroll through the jewel of San Diego.
