I'm a sucker for the dutch apple pie. I've learned to buy only a slice at a time otherwise I eat the whole darn pie by myself. At $13-15 each, the price is a little harder to swallow than the appley goodness...but definitely worth it if you are a Julian pie virgin or only make it up there once a year. The hot apple cider is excellent as well and knocks me out every time on the car ride home.
This pie co. is in a great location - down at a quieter end of the street, with a used book store right across the way, and a large patio with benches, tables, and a water bowl for your pooch. There isn't a whole lot of space inside and the line can get slow and muddled. Definitely get there in the morning or early afternoon if you want to avoid the line.
If there was a place that was a must-stop in Julian, this would be it. It's easy to see why it's so popular after tasting their pies and people come from far and wide with their families and pets to enjoy a small slice at the dog-friendly outdoor patio.
My friend and I shared a slice of the Dutch apple pie and the apple and berry pie. Both were exquisite and my favorite part was definitely the crust and crumbled topping. Though not cheap, there's really no other reason to come to Julian than for pie.
Julian Pie Company would have earned a perfect score if not for their inability to scale with their success. Waiting for the bathroom is a nightmare and seating is basically non-existent. It's still an absolute must when going to Julian but you might find yourself "holding it" for a while.
