Kobe Japanese Cuisine & Bar

A gal pal from San Diego was visiting for the week for work and we wanted to make as much catchup time as possible. Fortunately she as a really sweet meal expense account which made it pretty much open season on dinner. Price being no object, we decided to get some delectable Japanese food at a place called Kobe, in Foster City.

We started off with a fried seafood platter, which was oddly served in an onion ring bowl and served with a light tempura dipping sauce. I thought it was a little bit oily and could have spent a little time on a drying rack or something. We also shared the seaweed salad which was delicious and went by quickly. I ordered the udon/sushi combo, which came with an assortment of basic sushi and sashimi (about 14 pieces I think) and a gigantic bowl of udon noodles and side of shrimp tempura. The meal was also served with miso soup and salad as well. The sushi slices were a little on the small side, but fair considering the rest of the meal. The udon noodles were enormous and there were lots of veggies and tofu in the tasty broth. It was easily enough for 3 people to enjoy. My friend ordered the fried pork rolls, which were also filled with cream cheese. It kind of actually reminded me of a jalapeno poppers actually. She also ordered a roll with spicy tuna and a beautiful hamachi sushi.

Service here is excellent and the dishes were delicious and beautiful. They've got some lovely waterside tables where you can enjoy your meal with your dog which is always a plus. I can't wait to go back and try more of their rolls. Thank goodness for expense accounts!
