You would be surprised at how many restaurants in Julian are extremely poorly rated considering that the place is a total tourist town. However, therein lies the problem. In finding a place to eat, my friend and I stopped into several places and were welcomed with nary a smile, and most of the time found ourselves shunned away. Perhaps they figure they will never see us again after this visit, and they would be right. Enter Romano's, a welcomed sight for sore eyes. Tucked away on a side street, I think I might have found the best overall restaurant in town by a long shot.
We were greeted immediately and brought to a table by the door, even though it was busy. We were started off with some bread rolls and butter which did a good job of tiding us over until our large meat lover's pizza arrived. I was a little disappointed to find out that they didn't do half and halfs because the chef literally found it inconvenient (minus one star) but otherwise everything was good. The pizza had tons of tasty toppings on it and the crusty was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The prices are totally reasonable and the pizza was only about $18.00.
They've got a nice little patio where you can dine with your dog and I simply couldn't recommend any other place for a meal in the area. Don't waste your time anywhere else. Drop into Romano's for a pie of a different sort before munching on some of the traditional apple stuff Julian is famous for.
