South Park is a totally random and tiny strip of grass in the middle of the city. It is surrounded by tall trees and a bunch of cafes, lunch spots and tech startups. There are a few picnic tables, a playground, and perhaps some bums hanging out at the southern end. I have to be honest, this is a pretty lame park when you compare it to all the other parks in the area. But I'll take what I can get when I'm itching to get out of the office!
I have seen people walking their (leashed) dogs there and having picnics. Quite a few of the surrounding cafes and restaurants have outdoor seating as well, so it's easy to grab brunch or lunch with your pooch while you're out for a walk. At the very least, it offers the neighborhood's backyard-less pets a patch of grass to roll around in.
There are tons of pet owners in the heart of the SF startup community and those people need a park! South Park is a nice little grove in the literal heart of the community which all the cool new companies call home. This park is on-leash only and it's a little on the small side, but it's always nice having a little oasis that your pup can call their home (or bathroom depending on how you look at it) away from home. If you're a dog owner living or working in SoMa, this is the place for you!
