I've been hearing so much about the elusive Tabe BBQ truck lately and have been really curious to try their Korean BBQ tacos ever since. As far as I know, the concept had been derived from a similar truck in L.A. called the Koji truck and had been a major hit. It's been one of those really hip, in-the-know things to tweet about and I finally got my chance when I stumbled upon it at the Asian culture festival at Liberty Station.
I decided to order a signature Korean BBQ beef taco and 5-spice fries to try. At $3 and $2 respectively, it certainly isn't the cheapest meal on wheels I've ever had, but also very reasonable at the same time. The taco was fabulous and the beef had tons of flavor. Topped with some lettuce and salsa, and some of their spicy mayo, it was a joy to eat, albeit a bit messy. The fries were pretty good too, and I could really taste the white pepper and other spices throughout.
The taco was definitely one of the best ones I've ever had and it seems like the perfect marriage of what is basically Korean carne asada and the taco. I really love the business model, and while a fairly pricey bite especially when considering that you're eating them on the side of the road, the taco was worth every penny in quality alone. I probably won't be chasing the truck around town to get my fix, but if I do see them again, I will certainly be ordering more. Honestly though, the best part is that since you're eating off a truck, it's ONLY outdoor seating so you can enjoy your street grub with your dog!
