Easily the best burrito in Marin, Taqueria San Jose has been around for as long as I can remember. Located under Highway 101 at 4th Street, this hideaway always manages to attract a packed house, and many of the local laborers dine here for every meal. It's easy to see why since their burritos are absolutely huge and full of your choice of meat, rice, beans, salsa, and other goodies and the chips and salsa bar is awesome.
My choice for the night, and the only thing I ever order here, was the carne asada super burrito. What makes it super is that, in addition to the standard stuff, it comes with extra cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Super indeed, this thing is delicious from the first bite to the last. The carne asada was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right, and all of the ingredients tasted very fresh. All of the salsas are made in house and added great spice to the burrito and were especially good when scooped up with their homemade tortilla chips. I would recommend going easy on these salsas though because some of them are very spicy!
Whenever I come home from San Diego, I have to drop in for this fantastic burrito. While the stuff they serve in SD is pretty good, it simply can't compare to the fresh flavor combinations and ingredients of Taqueria San Jose. It may be located in a somewhat shady location, but if you happen to be in Marin for whatever reason and looking for a really great meal, don't be afraid to drop in for some great Mexican food. There's a single lonely table outside but your dog is welcome at it and I've seen several of them out there before. Just keep them away from the heavy door!
