Summer isn't the only thing that's heating up in San Diego because the froyo craze is driving prices per oz down down down. My friend and I normally go to Yogurtland as a medium between the high prices of Yogurt World and the basically free stuff at Yogurt Heaven. The quality and service are also things I look for in a decent froyo shop and Yogurtland seems to have that pegged. Enter: Yogurt Swirl.

I spotted this place once after dining at the pho joint next door and I think the two share the same owner. The biggest selling point here is their bargain basement price of $.25/oz of froyo. There aren't many flavor choices, nor are they all that interesting (vanilla, chocolate, etc) but they get the job done. The texture is on the watered down side so it didn't taste as good as Yogurtland's offerings, but for a quick fix, it was decent enough and totally affordable. It's about 30% cheaper than Yogurt World and the price really can't be beat if all you want is something cold to eat.

At one time I actually considered opening a froyo shop in SD, but competition is fierce and margins are small. Yogurt Swirl is evidence of this and without the low prices to attract customers, I don’t know if it would still be around. It is also not a place I see myself hanging out with friends since the plaza is dark and parking is tight so I would only really come here for some quick satisfaction and bouncing just as quickly. Fortunately there are a couple nice tables outside if you want to hang out with your dog on a hot day.
